Faces of mountains // ongoing (2026)

There’s always been a fascination that draws me to mountains and trees. That’s often where the search begins, something I can build on. The fuel of my inspiration and drive.

While I'm there, a kind of recognition, of a faceless past.
In rocks, recognizable human forms seem to take shape. Shadows from the past. Petrified, no longer there. But here.

The people of the Mountains.
Faces come back to me; I recognize them.
But they belong to something so much greater.

Frozen in time, time has passed.

In trees I find familiarity.  Longing, searching.

Still recognise parts that seemed lost. But are there.

They tell a tale that had no voice

Gekerft in de rotsen,
Kervend,
Levend achterblijfselen,

Carved into the rocks,
Carving,
Living remnants,

Do they belong, do I belong?
Shifted, the way down,

Up,
A way,
Somewhere

Reusachtig, in een omarming van gebergte
Klimmend, klauterend, dalend
Maar veranderlijk
En soms verraderlijk
Wortelen schieten uit,
Hun eigen weg
Uit de bescherming, veilige basis

Gigantic, embraced by mountains
Climbing, scrambling, descending
But ever-changing
And sometimes treacherous
Roots shoot out,
Following their own path
Away from the protection, the safe foundation

Ik zit vast op een berg.

I'm stuck on a mountain

A mountain has me in its grip.
It holds me fast. And won’t let me go.
A mountain doesn’t care.
You are the one passing through.
Tumbling, spinning round and round.
Rocks buzzing, a clattering sound. Empty, ringing, echoing,
Under the mountain’s spell

Een berg heeft me vast.
Het houdt mij vast. En laat me niet gaan.
Een berg maakt het niet uit.
Jij bent de passeerder.
Tuimelend, de rondte in.
Stenen gonzend, keiend geluid. Leeg, klankend, kalend,
In de ban van de berg
